Principal:
Leigh began her career in education in a 9th grade classroom in Durango, Colorado, after completing a BA in Humanities & a Secondary Teaching License from Fort Lewis (1994). Inspired to affect positive change for a more diverse population, Leigh recognized teen mothers as a group of high school students desperately needing attention. Since 1997, Leigh influenced the lives of teen parents in the Roaring Fork and Colorado River Valleys as Director of the Infant and Toddler programs and Student Advisor at Yampah Mountain High School in Glenwood Springs, CO. She complimented her expertise with a Master’s Degree in Non-Profit Management from Regis University in 2005, completing these studies in service to NGOs in Cape Town, South Africa.. She holds teaching endorsements in the areas of Secondary Social Studies (Ft. Lewis 1994), 0-7 Early Childhood (Colorado Mt College/CU Denver 1997), and K-12 Linguistically & Culturally Diverse: ESL (Western State College 2006).
In the fall of 2007, Leigh expanded her reach with adolescents as the Principal of Yampah Mountain High School. Leigh completed her Principal endorsement and graduate studies in Educational Leadership through Mesa State College in the summer of 2008.
RECOGNITION/AWARDS:
Leigh received the 2003 CO Trust Fellowship in Non-profit Leadership and served for two years. Recently, she has been awarded The Women's Foundation of Colorado, Be Bold Award in 2007, was recognized on the CO Senate floor by both Senator Salazar and Senator Schwartz in 2008 for Educational Leadership, and was given the Distinguished Student Award in Educational Leadership from The Mesa State Center for Teacher Education in 2008.
